Building Community Services Project Awards Grants Training, Technical Assistance and Financial Assistance to Local Non-Profit Organizations ACTION, Inc. has awarded grants of free training and technical assistance to 31 local nonprofit organizations. The purpose of the grants is to build the capacity of organizations that are addressing economic recovery issues; thereby improving their ability to serve their clients and the community. Of the 31 organizations, 18 will also receive financial assistance totaling just over $293,400. Financial awards ranging from $2,100 to $27,619 were awarded to organizations serving Barrow, Clarke, Elbert, Greene, and Jackson counties. This Federal Grant was awarded in September 2009 with ACTION, Inc. as the Grantee. The funds come from the Strengthening Communities Fund--Nonprofit Capacity Building Program through the Department of Health & Human Services, administered by the Administration of Families & Children, Office of Community Services. These funds are part of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. A Call for Proposals was issued mid-December 2009. The new awardee orientation on Tuesday was fantastic! We've already been getting a lot of reservations for the upcoming Grant Writing Training, but there are still slots available for those who wish to attend! Interviews are underway with each organization to begin determining the organization needs and priorities. Work plans for each organization should be created by the end of the first week in March. Throughout March, the BCS team members will be visiting each site to present the work plans. We've also added a new lin to the website, Local Nonprofit News, Trainings & More, which will include a number of external resources and trainings that you may find useful. These resources are not offered by the BCS team, but may be beneficial to you and/or your organization. There's a lot of work to do, but we're ready! Thanks for all of your hard work and let the work begin! New Awardee Orientation Today 02/16/2010

The deadline for the first round of applicants has passed and we had 44 organizations apply!!! All I can say is...IMPRESSIVE! All 5 counties were represented and organizations at all different stages in the nonprofit lifecycle are in the mix. Now, the screening committee will be meeting and making their decisions by February 10. 30 organizations will be chosen in this round. Also, the first training has been set! On Friday, March 5 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Dr. Michelle M. Carney will be presenting a stimulating presentation on grant writing. Make sure you check out our Nonprofit Trainings to reserve your spot! Welcome! 01/22/2010
The fun part is just getting started. The deadline to complete a proposal for consideration has just ended. Now the screening committee will have the pleasure (and rather difficult time) of reading the proposals and choosing which ones will get awarded the training and technical assistance and/or funding. Look for more details to come! But before I go, keep checking this site for updated nonprofit resources and training. Please be patient as we gather and post new resources (there are so many we want to make available to YOU!) |
